WebP is everywhere on the web now, so the photos you save from sites and shops often arrive as .webp files. Browsers show them without trouble. The problems start later: an older photo app will not open the file, a print shop asks for JPG, or a job portal or government form rejects anything else. JPG is the one photo format that every device, app and printer understands.
Converting WebP to JPG solves that in a few seconds, and you can do a single image or a whole folder.
How to convert WebP to JPG
- Drop your WebP files on the drop area, or press Select WebP images.
- Keep the quality on High unless you have a reason to change it.
- If your images have see-through parts, choose a white or black background for them.
- Press Convert to JPG, then Download JPG for one file or Download all as ZIP for several.
Up to four images convert at the same time, depending on your device, and each one shows how its size changed.
What happens to transparent areas
JPG cannot store transparency. When a WebP has see-through parts, such as a logo or a product cut out from its background, those parts are filled with the color you picked. White suits documents and most uploads. Black suits dark designs. The result line tells you when a fill was needed, so you are never surprised. If you must keep the transparency, convert WebP to PNG instead.
Quality and file size
The JPGs are made with MozJPEG, Mozilla's JPEG encoder. It gives smaller files than a standard encoder at the same quality.
- High is the default. Side by side, the JPG looks the same as the WebP.
- Maximum uses the highest JPG quality with full color detail. JPG cannot be lossless, so this is as close as it gets.
- Smaller gives the lightest file, fine for chats and web forms with size limits. Small details may soften.
Expect the JPG to be somewhat larger than the WebP. WebP is usually 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG at the same look, so the extra bytes are the price of opening everywhere.
Bulk WebP to JPG from a folder
Saved a whole product catalog or a folder of downloads? Press Select a folder, or drop the folder on the drop area. Sub-folders are included and hidden files are skipped. A batch can hold up to 300 images, each up to 100 MB and 100 megapixels. With more than five files the list turns into small tiles, and at the end a total line sums up the whole batch.
Private by default
