You save an image from a website and it lands on your computer as a .webp file. Browsers handle it fine, but some older editors, office programs, print shops and upload forms still refuse it. PNG opens almost everywhere. It is also a good format for editing, because it is lossless: you can open, change and save a PNG many times without it getting worse.
That makes WebP to PNG the safe choice for logos, icons, stickers, screenshots and anything you plan to work on further.
How to convert WebP to PNG
- Drop your WebP files on the drop area, or press Select WebP images. A whole folder works too, with Select a folder.
- There is no quality to pick. PNG output is always lossless, so every pixel of the WebP is kept.
- Press Convert to PNG. Up to four images convert at the same time, depending on your device. Each one shows its new size when it is done.
- Press Download PNG for a single image or Download all as ZIP for several. On a computer, you can also scan a QR code to send the files to your phone.
Why the PNG is larger than the WebP
Expect the PNG to be bigger, often a lot bigger for photos. Most WebP images on the web use lossy compression, which throws away detail the eye does not notice. PNG stores every pixel exactly, so it needs more bytes for the same picture.
To keep that growth small, every file goes through OxiPNG. It picks the smallest bit depth and color palette that fits the image without changing a single pixel. If you are converting photos and size matters more than editing, convert WebP to JPG instead.
WebP to PNG with transparency
Transparent areas stay transparent. Soft edges, shadows and half see-through parts come out exactly as they were, which matters for product cut-outs and logos you will place on other backgrounds. That is the big advantage over JPG, which has no transparency at all.
Edge cases worth knowing
- Animated WebP becomes a still PNG of its first frame.
- Wrong extensions are not a problem. The tool reads the real type from the file's bytes, so a JPG named .webp still converts.
- Other formats work on this page too: JPG, AVIF, GIF and BMP all turn into PNG.
- PNG files you drop here are optimized, and if the new copy would come out bigger, you get the original back.
- Colors are converted to sRGB and 16-bit images become 8-bit.
- Metadata such as camera details and GPS location is removed.

Is the PNG safe to edit in any app? Yes. It is a standard 8-bit PNG in sRGB, which every common image editor opens.
