PNG is a lossless format. It keeps every pixel exactly, which is great for logos, icons and screenshots of text, but it makes photos and large screenshots very heavy. JPG was made for photos. It drops detail your eye does not notice and gives you a much smaller file. When an email or chat app refuses a big PNG, or a page loads slowly because of one, a PNG to JPG conversion is usually the fix. JPG also opens in every app and on every device.
How to convert PNG to JPG
- Drop your PNG files on the drop area or press Select PNG images. To add a whole folder, drop it there or press Select a folder. Sub-folders are included and hidden files are skipped.
- Pick a quality. High is the default and looks the same as the original side by side. Smaller gives the smallest file for web pages and chats, though small details may soften. Maximum is the highest quality JPG can offer.
- If your images have transparent parts, choose a white or black background for them.
- Press Convert to JPG, then Download JPG for one file or Download all as ZIP for several.
One batch can hold up to 300 images, each up to 100 MB and 100 megapixels. Up to four images convert at the same time, depending on your device.
What happens to transparent parts
JPG has no transparency. Every pixel needs a color, so the converter fills see-through areas with white or black, whichever you pick. White suits documents and most web pages. Black suits dark designs. The result line tells you when a fill was used, so a logo never changes without you knowing.
If you need to keep the transparent background, JPG is the wrong target. You can convert PNG to WebP or convert PNG to AVIF instead. Both keep transparency and are still much smaller than PNG.
PNG to JPG without losing quality
JPG is always lossy, so some pixels change. In practice the difference is hard to see. This PNG to JPG converter uses MozJPEG, Mozilla's encoder, which makes smaller JPGs at the same quality. At High it keeps full color detail and saves a progressive JPG, which shows a sharp preview while it loads. Thin colored lines and red text stay crisp, where many converters blur them.
A before and after slider shows the first image, every file in the list shows its old and new size, and a total line adds it all up. Photos and screenshots with gradients shrink the most. Flat graphics with only a few colors shrink less, and for those it can make sense to keep the PNG.
Private, and clean of metadata
Everything runs in your browser in Web Workers. Your images are never uploaded. The JPGs carry no metadata, which means camera details and GPS location are removed. Photos are turned the right way up from their EXIF rotation, and color profiles are converted to sRGB so colors look the same in every app. Our privacy policy has the details.
Frequently asked questions
Is PNG to JPEG the same as PNG to JPG? Yes. JPG and JPEG are two names for one format. The files end in .jpg, which every app accepts.
Can I drop other formats on the drop area? Yes. It also takes JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and BMP. The real type is read from the file's bytes, so a wrong extension is not a problem. Animated images become their first frame.
Can I get my PNG back later? You can convert JPG to PNG, but the detail JPG removed does not come back. Keep the original PNG if you may need it again.
Can I pick a different output format? Yes. Switch the output to WebP, AVIF, PNG or SVG on this same page. More converters are in the image tools.
