Color palette generator
Press Space for a new color palette and watch a whole website and dashboard repaint with it. Lock the colors you like, pick a design style, then export a DESIGN.md your AI tool can build from.

- Press the space bar, or the Generate button, to get a new palette. Each press gives you a fresh set of color combinations that belong together.
- Lock the colors you want to keep with the lock icon. The next palette keeps them and builds the other colors around them.
- Click any color to fine tune it: type a hex code, drag the lightness, chroma and hue sliders, pick a lighter or darker shade, or pick a color from anywhere on your screen. Set its share of the design too: the colors start equal, and you can make it 60-30-10 or any split you like.
- Scroll down to the preview. A whole website and an app dashboard repaint with your palette as you work, in light and in dark.
- Pick a design style on the left, then press Export to download your design.
The first color is your primary, the one for buttons and links. The second is the secondary and the third is the accent for small highlights. You can add up to five more colors for charts, tags and illustrations, and drag the columns to change their order.
A website color palette you can see before you build
Colors that look good as five stripes can still fail on a real page. That is why this color scheme generator paints a full website with your palette: a header with a working dropdown menu, a hero with an illustration, feature cards, pricing with a monthly and yearly switch, a contact form that checks what you type, alerts, badges, a dialog, toast messages, an FAQ and a footer. The dashboard view adds charts, a table, progress bars and an account menu.
You can switch the preview between desktop, tablet and phone widths, and see it the way people with color blindness do: protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia or no color at all.
More than colors: design styles
A brand color palette is only part of a look. Pick one of eight styles and the preview changes shape as well as color:
- Clean for calm product sites, Soft for friendly apps, Sharp for bold brands.
- Editorial with a serif for content sites, Glass with see-through surfaces, Corporate for dense business screens.
- Playful with thick outlines and offset shadows, Mono for developer tools.
Open Shape and depth to set the corner radius, shadows, button style, spacing, borders and grays yourself, and choose from six font pairings. The fonts are free to use in any project.
Contrast checked for you
Every palette is tested against the WCAG 2 contrast rules for text on the page, muted text, button labels, links and accent colors. When a pair is too faint to read, the Fix button moves that color just enough to pass. The tool also builds safe text versions of your colors, so a light yellow accent still gives you a readable yellow for small text.
Export to CSS, Tailwind or an AI tool
The export holds light and dark themes, shades from 50 to 950 for each color, fonts, radius, spacing and shadows. Choose the format you need:
- DESIGN.md: one Markdown file that describes your whole design system: colors and what each one is for, typography, layout, components, contrast results, do's and don'ts, and instructions for AI tools. Give it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or v0 and ask it to build your site.
- CSS variables, a Tailwind color palette for Tailwind CSS v4, a shadcn/ui theme, JSON design tokens and SCSS.
Share copies a link with your whole palette and style in it, so a teammate opens exactly what you see.
Private and free
The color palette generator runs in your browser. Nothing you pick is uploaded, there is no sign-in, and your palette lives only in the link. Read more about how PieToolkit tools work and our privacy policy.
Questions
How does it choose colors that go together?
It works in OKLCH, a color space where equal steps look equal to the eye. It picks a harmony (analogous, complementary, split complementary, triadic, tetradic or monochrome), then keeps every color far enough from the others to tell them apart. Mood steers the result toward vivid, pastel, muted, deep, earthy or neon.
Can I use my brand colors?
Yes. Click a column, paste your hex code and lock it. The generator then suggests UI color palette ideas around it.
Where do the color names come from?
From the open color-name-list project by David Aerne, under the MIT license.
What else can I try?
Once your new site is online, test its speed, security and uptime with the website checker, or browse more developer tools.
